How to check the speed of the Internet connection

Ensuring a reliable and seamless internet experience is paramount, particularly during virtual classrooms or meetings. To guarantee optimal performance, it's crucial to assess the speed of your internet connection accurately. Follow these steps to gauge your internet speed with precision:

  1. Open the speed test tool:
  • Visit the Speedtest website, a reliable and widely used service for measuring Internet speed.

      2. Select the appropriate server:

  • Click on the “Change server” button.
  • In the search bar, type "Moscow" or "Saint Petersburg." These regions are recommended as our school's servers are primarily located there. Using them for testing will ensure the most accurate results.
  • Choose any provider from the list provided.

      3. Run a speed test:

  • Click the "Go" button to initiate the test.
  • Allow the test to complete. The screen will display three key parameters: ping, download speed and upload speed (Upload).

     4. Interpreting the results:

  • Check the results. For an internet connection of optimal quality, aim for the following benchmarks::
    • Ping: Ideally, keep it under 100 ms (milliseconds).
    • Download Speed: Ensure it's no less than 10 Mb/s (megabits per second).
    • Upload Speed: Maintain a minimum of 10 Mb/s (megabits per second).

     5. Sharing results if needed:

  • Should you need to share your findings, click on the "Share" icon to copy the test results link.

     6. Addressing insufficient speed:

  • If any of the indicators fall short of the recommended thresholds, it may impact your online experience. In such cases, consider reaching out to your Internet service provider to explore options for boosting your connection speed or adjusting your Internet plan.

By adhering to these steps, you can precisely gauge the speed of your Internet connection, thereby ensuring it aligns with the demands of efficient online teaching or learning experience.
